Windborne
My soul
must have signed a contract
to travel this Earth,
these beautiful and sometimes barren landscapes,
much like a bundle
of tumbleweed would.

And you might not know
but I hope you do,
you have been holding me
as if I were a kite,
as if I were a delight,
even when I felt I didn’t deserve it.
Your love and friendship unspooling me
and letting me go higher,
to see further;
you reeling me in closer
when I have seen too much
that hurts to see and feel alone.

My god, my friends,
readers, witnesses, fellow travelers,
I feel your presence in my life,
as strong and equal as the wind
on my unsettled days,
your care and shelter and heart that
allow my tumbleweed soul to rest.

You kite runners carrying me,
you windbreaks warmly receiving me
in whatever form I come,
my god, my friends, how I thank you for this rest.
